HERMOSA BEACH : Council Considers Closing Beach or Imposing Fees

Share

Los Angeles County’s plan to suspend lifeguard services at Hermosa Beach after Sept. 7 has forced the South Bay community to consider closing the beach or charging out-of-town visitors to use it.

The Hermosa Beach City Council discussed those proposals, as well as a possible lawsuit against the county to stop the suspension, at a special meeting Tuesday night. The council scheduled the session after the County Board of Supervisors voted 3 to 2 last week to withdraw lifeguard and beach cleaning services from Hermosa Beach.

The supervisors said they decided to stop the beach supervision and cleaning after Hermosa officials refused to help pay for the services.
