SANTA ANA — A 5-year-old boy who was injured when he was struck by a van Tuesday has been identified as Francisco Jimenez. He was in serious but stable condition at UCI Medical Center in Orange, authorities said.
Francisco, his mother and a second adult were injured when the vehicle, which was cut off by another car, jumped the curb and struck the three of them on the sidewalk.
The boy was recovering Wednesday from a broken left leg and facial fractures, said Fran Tardiff, a hospital spokeswoman.
His mother, Alicia Jimenez, 40, of Garden Grove, and Jose Sanchez, 44, of Santa Ana were taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana. Sanchez suffered a pelvic fracture and was in serious condition. Jimenez had a dislocated shoulder and was listed in stable condition Wednesday.
Police only had a sketchy description of the vehicle that may have caused the accident, saying it was a small and gray in color. The identity of its driver is unknown.
The accident is under investigation and no charges have been filed, police said.
