GLENDALE : Woman Fined $50 in Clash With TV Cameraman
The director of a Glendale birthing center has pleaded no contest to disturbing the peace in a March confrontation with a KCBS-TV cameraman, officials said.
Tonya Brooks was about to begin trial at Glendale Municipal Court when she agreed to the plea bargain, Deputy Dist. Atty. Mi Young Noh said. Judge Joseph DeVanon ordered her to pay a $50 fine.
“Everyone thought that was a reasonable offer,” Noh said. “There was no actual damage done to the victim.”
Brooks was accused of assaulting Marshall Sherwood, 54, on March 8 when the cameraman and reporter Harvey Levin came to the center to ask Brooks about felony charges accusing her of running Gentle Birth Center without the proper medical licenses. That case is pending in Los Angeles Municipal Court.
