Tee for Two at International Resorts : Senior sports group organizes amateur golf tournaments at major courses in U.S., abroad.

Share

Many mature travelers who combine golf with their journeys have become members of the National Senior Sports Assn. (NSSA). Next year the group celebrates its 25th year of organizing and conducting amateur recreational golf events for seniors.

Tournaments have been sponsored in resort locations such as Palm Springs; Las Vegas; Scottsdale, Ariz.; Hilton Head, S.C.; Coeur d’Alene, Ida.; Hawaii; Mexico; Bermuda, and St. Andrews, Scotland.

A typical NSSA event lasts five days and begins with a welcoming reception and banquet. It includes a 54-hole tournament, daily breakfast and an awards banquet. NSSA personnel handle all arrangements including room reservations, scheduling of tee times, bag storage, pairings and scoring. Participants arrive at the course and find their bags on a cart ready to go. Sightseeing and other activities are scheduled for non-golfers who accompany golfing members.

NSSA will schedule tennis tournaments for non-golfers at the destination resorts, as well as periodic bowling tournaments and ski trips.

Airline travel to tournament sites may be booked through NSSA’s in-house travel agency. Many participants play only at destinations within driving distance of their homes; those who do not require room accommodations pay significantly lower enrollment fees.

NSSA membership costs $25 for one year or $65 for three years, and includes spouse participation in all events. Prices for events vary with location and time of year: Most are planned during non-peak periods, enabling NSSA to negotiate lower costs for members. Non-golfing spouses pay reduced rates.

For complete information on membership, including an application, descriptive brochure and copy of NSSA Senior Sports News listing 1993-1994 events and tournament costs, call (800) 282-6772 or write National Senior Sports Assn., Dept. MT, 1248 Post Road, Fairfield, Conn. 06430.
