LOS ANGELES COUNTY : Merger of Beaches, Parks Departments Voted Down

Share

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to keep the departments of Beaches and Harbors and Parks and Recreation as separate entities, and not combine them to save money.

The supervisors voted unanimously to reject a recommendation by the Quality and Productivity Commission to merge the departments. The board agreed with acting Chief Administrative Officer Harry Hufford’s finding that combining the departments “would not assure significant enhancements.”

Hufford said merging the departments would save the county $341,000 a year, but with a significant loss of efficiency in both departments.
