Pop Album Chart : Blind Melon Making a Move

The year-old debut album by the rock band Blind Melon is finally making a move--and what a move. It’s rocketed from nowhere to No. 10 in the last few weeks, largely thanks to the popularity of the single, “No Rain,” which has a video that’s been heavily played. The second Billy Ray Cyrus album, “It Won’t Be the Last,” has slipped to No. 22. While selling respectably, it’s not going to be a blockbuster like his first one. Cypress Hill’s “Black Sunday” (No. 2) is still going strong and shows no signs of letting up. The surprise is that U2’s acclaimed “Zooropa” isn’t topping the chart after its fifth week in release--and also that it didn’t last too long at No. 1. Its No. 4 ranking is nothing to sneeze at, but you’d expect U2 to be a chart-topper much longer.

* The kiddie rappers from Atlanta are back with an album that premiered impressively, at No. 13. The hit single, “Alright,” should boost sales. Of course, speculation centers on whether it will duplicate the success of the first Kris Kross album. Its performance in the next two weeks will be a good indicator.
