LOS ANGELES : Lomax Quits as Attorney for One Holden Accuser

Share

Melanie Lomax, an attorney for one of three women who have accused City Councilman Nate Holden of sexual harassment, said Thursday that she has removed herself from the case.

Lomax said she will no longer represent Carla Cavalier, a former receptionist and field deputy for Holden, because her involvement has shifted attention from the issues of the case.

Lomax’s announcement came before Orange County Superior Court Judge Donald Smallwood’s decision to strike down Holden’s countersuit charging defamation and libel that he filed against Lomax and Cavalier last February. The case was transferred to Orange County in July when the entire Los Angeles Superior Court bench was disqualified from hearing it.

Holden’s countersuit charged that Cavalier’s sexual harassment claims were trumped up. He has 30 days to file an amended complaint.

Orange County attorney Marylyne Goldstock will represent Cavalier, Lomax said.
