Pleasant Valley Elementary School District officials Thursday interviewed nine candidates to fill two openings for principals at Las Colinas School and Los Altos Intermediate School.

The new principal at Los Altos will replace Ruben Jimenez, a seven-year employee of Pleasant Valley who has been transferred out of the junior high school and into a district staff position.

The second hire will become principal of Las Colinas School, replacing Dianne Anders who has been appointed principal of the planned Tierra Linda School.

Citing laws that forbid school officials to publicly discuss personnel issues, Supt. Shirley Carpenter declined to explain why the school board decided to transfer Jimenez.

“This just seemed the best thing to do at this point,” she said.

Beginning in the fall, Jimenez will work with teachers around the district in implementing various programs, such as bilingual education, she said. He will continue to receive his $59,554 salary.

Jimenez could not be reached for comment.
