CALABASAS : Price Club Outlet Bid Is Withdrawn
Putting to rest a potential watershed issue for fledgling Calabasas, the Price Club has withdrawn a proposal to build a massive retail outlet near one of the city’s three freeway off-ramps, a company official said Monday.
“The company has decided not to purchase the site, because of a lack of support from the city,” said Lois Miller, vice president of planning for Price Club.
The proposal to build a 126,800-square-foot discount store at the corner of Lost Hills and Agoura roads brought a barrage of protests from nearby residents, who said the outlet would create traffic jams and wreck the rural character of the area.
Many also felt that the approval of such a huge commercial structure before the completion of the Calabasas General Plan would have been the antithesis of the slow-growth principles that the city was founded on two years ago.
“It would have set a very dangerous precedent,” said Peter Eason, president of the Deer Springs Homeowners Assn.
