MOORPARK : Council to Review Plan for Street Lights

Share

The future of Moorpark’s historic High Street could be made a little brighter under a plan being reviewed by the City Council.

The council tonight will consider paying a consultant $1,500 to $5,200 to develop a new lighting plan for High Street in the heart of the city’s downtown area.

The plan is the first step toward the eventual installation of antique-looking street lights along the thoroughfare that has become a prime focus of city redevelopment.

The council last month voted to spend $20,000 to install benches, planters and trash receptacles along the commercial strip, and plans for a small sitting park and other refurbishments are pending.

Councilman John Wozniak said the consultant’s study will be the first step in adding attractive period lighting along the street.

“It gives us a basic footprint,” he said. “It tells us the location of the street lights, how many we’re going to have, how high.”

The council will consider the matter at its meeting beginning at 7 p.m. in City Hall, 799 Moorpark Ave.
