Beverly Hills : 3 Honored for Rescue

Three good Samaritans, including a woman who jumped into a moving car to stop it after the driver suffered a heart attack, have been honored by Beverly Hills Police Chief Marvin D. Iannone.

Timothy Jackson of Manhattan Beach and Lillie Pearl Bowen and Michael Hampton, both of Los Angeles, received certificates of appreciation for their role in trying to rescue a 77-year-old Tarzana man, said police spokesman Lt. Frank Salcido.

The man suffered a heart attack July 27 while driving out of a grocery store parking lot at Beverwil Drive and Olympic Boulevard, Salcido said. Bowen saw the car rolling down the street with the driver slumped over the steering wheel. She jumped out of her car and began running alongside the man’s car attempting to steer it to the curb. When she could not get the car to the curb, she opened the car and jumped in to bring it to a halt.

Jackson and Hampton then joined her efforts to save the man. He later died.
