Burglars’ Take Undetermined, but They Leave a Mess at Shake Shack
Sheriff’s investigators are looking for the burglars who left the Crystal Cove Shake Shack, famous for its date shakes and fruit smoothies, a melting mess.
The well-known refreshment stand, which has been perched above the historic Crystal Cove community on Coast Highway for 48 years, had to close temporarily after Wednesday’s burglary.
The burglars broke a window of the eatery at 7408 Coast Highway between 6 p.m. and midnight Wednesday, said Lt. Randy Blair of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
“It was found ransacked, and food was thrown about,” Blair said.
An exterminator contracted with the shop called authorities about 12:20 a.m. Thursday after finding the Shake Shack’s doors unlocked when he was checking the property.
Police do not know what all was taken from the stand, marked by its bright yellow with white trim.
Owners Richard J. III and Arden Flamson are out of town and have not filed a list of what was stolen, officials said.
