Police were searching for a man who took about $2,000 from a Bank of America branch Saturday morning after threatening to open fire on customers and employees.

The incident began at 11 a.m. when the robber, described as about six feet tall and in his early 30s, walked into the bank on Beach Boulevard.

Buena Park Police Sgt. Jim Dixon said the man approached a teller with what appeared to be a weapon tucked in his waistband or hidden by clothing and demanded cash.

“He threatened to shoot people in the bank if he didn’t get the money,” Dixon said.

He said the bank teller handed over $50 and $100 bills to the man, who fled in a brown or copper-colored pickup.

The robber was wearing a long-sleeve blue, denim shirt, white cap and blue pants, Dixon said.

Police did not have a suspect Saturday night.
