Mexican Economy Slows: The nation’s economy grew a scant 0.3% in the second quarter after expanding 2.4% in the first quarter, the government reported. The slowdown dealt a blow to the government’s official target of 2.5% to 3% growth for the year. In addition to making it more likely the government will change course and move to stimulate the economy, analysts said the slowdown indicates more than ever how crucial the North American Free Trade Agreement is to Mexico.
