Harman Profits Triple in Fourth Quarter

Harman International Industries, a Northridge-based maker of audio speaker systems, reported a more than three-fold increase in profits for its fiscal fourth quarter ended June 30.

Harman said it earned $5.3 million in the latest quarter, up from $1.6 million a year earlier. Its fiscal fourth-quarter sales rose 14%, to $175.3 million from $153.3 million. The company said sales of audio systems to automobile makers were particularly strong.

For its fiscal year ended June 30, Harman’s profit more than tripled to $11.2 million from $3.5 million a year earlier. Fiscal year sales rose 10%, to $664.9 million from $604.5 million.
