Nichols Institute Under Federal Investigation: The San Juan Capistrano-based medical diagnostics and testing company said federal Department of Health and Human Services investigators plan to subpoena company documents during an ongoing investigation into the clinical laboratory industry. The HHS will seek access to Nichols’ records as part of an investigation into selling, pricing and billing practices at medical testing companies that are reimbursed by Medicare and Medicaid. Nichols Institute is cooperating with investigators, said Chairman Albert Nichols, who added that no charges have been filed against the company.
