Boy, 15, Killed by Gunfire Aimed at Traffic
A 15-year-old Lomita teen-ager was killed early Sunday by gang members randomly shooting at traffic on Pacific Coast Highway in Harbor City, Los Angeles police reported.
Ramon Toro Jr., a student at Fleming Junior High School, was a passenger in a car when he was hit by a bullet believed to have been fired by gang members, said Detective Peter Ranzanskas.
Godinez Ramon Toro said his son was returning from a dance with his uncle, the driver of the car. The youth had delivered newspapers for the Daily Breeze for four years and recently won a trophy from the paper for his work, Toro said.
After the 1:20 a.m. shooting, the gunmen ran into a public housing project but no arrests had been made, Ranzanskas said.
Toro was pronounced dead at Torrance Memorial Medical Center.
