Carrera Computers Inc. said Monday it will launch a new line of computer workstations in an alliance with Digital Equipment Corp.

Carrera’s Hercules 150 computers will be based on Digital’s Alpha 150 microprocessor, or main computing brain, and will sell for about $4,500 each.

The Digital chip is faster than the current generation of rival Pentium chips made by Intel Corp. Carrera, a start-up computer firm with 16 employees, is one of only four companies that have allied with Digital.

The Hercules computers will run Microsoft Windows NT, the new generation of operating system software for networks of personal computers. Brad Frye, president of Carrera, said two other lines of computers will be introduced this fall.
