* Regarding the recent scandal involving the Washington Huskies:

It is time the schools of higher education learn that more revolves around the university than football. Today’s universities spend legitimate and non-legitimate dollars trying to recruit top-notch football players without any concern for the education of the students.

I attend USC or at least I thought I did as of Aug. 21. That day I found out my financial and federal loans have been pulled. Their reasoning was that one of my financial aid papers was turned in late. This is after a year of fighting with the university’s financial aid department on issues ranging from having the university consider me as an independent student to fighting to find out where all my “lost” paperwork goes (some of which has been turned in three to four times).

When a university decides to spend thousands of dollars to cultivate a football team, remember, there are students who do not play football who are struggling to put food on the table and keep a roof over their heads; all for that same piece of the American dream for a better life.
