GLENDALE : City to Allow Lingerie Shows at Restaurant

On with the show.

That’s what the manager at Chuy’s Restaurant & Bar in Glendale is saying after the city clerk’s office Thursday approved the eatery’s request to feature modeling of lingerie and swimwear.

“We’ll be able to start it Wednesday,” said Ted Hatch, general manager at Chuy’s, located at the Exchange in downtown Glendale. “We would have been able to start (Friday), but the girls are out of town.”

Chuys had begun to hold its shows in May, but on July 19 the shows were shut down by Glendale police. Police cited the establishment for allegedly violating its entertainment permit, which didn’t include modeling of lingerie and swimwear. Patrons and businesses at the Exchange also filed complaints about the lunchtime shows, saying they bared too much flesh and were inappropriate for the center.

Chuy’s owner, Michael C. Loftis, applied for a new permit that would allow the modeling, and on Aug. 11, the city attorney’s office dropped the citation.

In approving Chuy’s entertainment permit, city officials listed several conditions for the show. Chuys must keep all windows covered and post signs at each entrance about the performance. The shows must also take place no more than three times a week, and each will be limited to two hours.

Police officials said they were satisfied with the restrictions.

“The Police Department will be monitoring Chuy’s to make sure that the conditions of the permit have been met,” Sgt. Lief Nicolaisen said.

Hatch said the restaurant has already purchased blinds for the windows.

“I think it (the swimwear and bikini show) will be back stronger than ever,” Hatch said. “We’re going to really promote it.”

Once the shows start up again, they will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, Chuy’s officials said.
