BREA : A Dozen Paintings of City on Display
Residents are being invited to view 12 paintings on display at Memory Garden Memorial Park Cemetery and Mortuary depicting buildings and scenic views in Brea in an effort to promote the city’s beauty.
The paintings were created by artist Carlos Terres of Jalisco, Mexico, who spent 1991 in Brea painting the city’s landmarks and historical and artistic buildings as part of a cultural arts exchange program.
Terres’ paintings, titled “The Brea Series,” highlight the city’s natural beauty with colorful pictures of the hills and parks, and its man-made beauty with a view of the civic center, officials said.
Terres’ works will be on display at Memorial Park, 455 W. Central Ave., until Dec. 10. Twelve city businesses including the mortuary each paid $2,500 to exhibit the paintings at their sites.
The establishments, which include the Brea Mall, Kirkhill Rubber Co., Sumitomo Bank and Olen Properties, will take turns showing the pictures until Brea’s new community center is built in two years, after which they will remain there.
