Belle Of Paducah Gives Desormeaux Four-Win Day
Belle Of Paducah powered her way to a length and three-quarters victory in the $56,800 June Darling Handicap at Del Mar on Thursday.
The 5-year-old Orbit Ruler mare rallied to beat front-running Walk Of Fame, and Melo Melody was another half length back. The winning time for the 6 1/2 furlongs was 1:15 2/5.
The winner gave rider Kent Desormeaux his fourth victory of the afternoon and paid $4. The California-bred is trained by Riley Cofer.
Belle Of Paducah sat just off the pace set by Walk Of Fame until the turn for home when Desormeaux, the meeting’s leading rider, threw the reins at his mount and the bay responded smartly.
