BURBANK : Man Arrested; Drugs Found in Police Car

If you’re going to hide something incriminating, find a better place than beneath the seat of a police car. A North Hollywood man who allegedly tried to conceal a package of cocaine has learned that lesson the hard way.

Clinton B. Kenny, 29, was arrested early Thursday after Burbank police saw him acting suspiciously in an alley. “It looked like he’d purchased some narcotics and they stopped to question him,” Sgt. Len Doran said.

During a pat-down search, officers couldn’t find anything. But a records check showed Kenny was wanted for misdemeanor spousal abuse.

After transporting Kenny to jail, the officers routinely searched their car and found a folded paper packet of cocaine under the front seat. Although the suspect was handcuffed, police said he could have maneuvered a package out of a back pocket or his shoe.

“This sort of thing happens quite frequently,” Doran said. “A pat-down search is mainly for safety, looking for guns. . . . A small paper bindle could easily be missed.”

In addition to his misdemeanor case, Kenny now faces a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance.
