Teen-Ager Dies in Gang-Related Drive-By Shooting
A 15-year-old was killed in a gang-related drive-by shooting Friday night, police said.
The victim, whom police refused to identify, and two friends were crossing North French Street at 15th Street about 8:30 p.m. when gunfire erupted from a large vehicle that had slowed near the corner, Sgt. Dick Faust said.
Police believe the suspect fired four or five shots, one a fatal blast to the teen-ager’s chest. The vehicle, which police believe was occupied by two men, was driven away from the scene.
The victim was believed to be a gang member and his name was being withheld to prevent retaliatory action from rivals, police said. The youth died at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana about an hour after he was shot.
The incident is under investigation, and anyone with information should call the Santa Ana gang unit at (714) 647-5165.
