Bernson’s Action Shows He Supports Developers
* Los Angeles Councilman Hal Bernson intends to “preserve equestrian land use” (Aug. 18) with his horse-keeping Bill of Rights.
Ironically, Bernson, as head of the Planning and Land Use Management Committee, has also vetoed the Planning Commission’s decision to limit construction of condominium units on RA-1-K property, less than half a block from the entrance of Stetson Equestrian Park in Sylmar.
His action to grant the developers’ appeal and double the number of units on the site follows a three-year battle in which local residents, the Neighborhood Watch and Corral 12 of the Equestrian Trails Inc., produced hundreds of letters and two large petitions to the city Planning Department and the city Planning Commission. In this case, not only are homeowners excluded from final planning decisions, but due to redistricting they are misrepresented by a councilman they did not elect.
