Stars Help Raise $174,000 at Golden Boot Awards

Motion Picture and Television Fund Foundation raised $174,000 at its 11th annual Golden Boot Awards gala Aug. 21 at the Century Plaza. Honorees included Clint Eastwood, Jane Fonda, Ted Turner, Jack Palance, Buck Taylor and stuntman Chuck Courtney. The late William Boyd--Hopalong Cassidy--was also honored, with the award accepted by his wife, Grace Boyd.

Blue Ribbon Children’s Festival Fund and American Foundation for AIDS Research will share net proceeds of $30,000 raised July 30 at a benefit performance of the White Oak Dance Project sponsored by Baryshnikov Productions, the Blue Ribbon of the Music Center and American Foundation for AIDS Research. The event included a champagne reception with Mikhail Baryshnikov and other featured dancers.

Westwood Presbyterian Church hosted a July 25 “Summer Benefit Musicale” with Tyne Daly as master of ceremonies. People Assisting the Homeless (PATH), Child SHARE, a foster-care ministry, Westside Food Bank and the outreach missions of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in South-Central Los Angeles will share $41,000 raised at the event.

CaliforniaKids, a program that provides health care to children from low-income families, will receive approximately $24,000, net proceeds of a July 18 benefit sponsored by the Los Angeles Dodger Wives. The “Dodger Wives on Deck” featured a food fair and sports auction at the Stadium Club at Dodger Stadium following the Expos vs. Dodgers game.

Free Arts for Abused Children raised $60,000 at its July 17 “Moonlight Roundup” at Calamigos Ranch, with celebrity host Stephanie Beacham. Proceeds will benefit programs of healing through art, including the Parents and Children Together with Art, a short-term program for battered women and their children.

Venice Family Clinic received $20,000, net proceeds raised July 17 at a “Midsummer Night’s Ball,” organized by HANDS, a newly formed group of young volunteer fund-raisers. Proceeds will benefit expanded health care to individuals and families in need. The event, held at the Santa Monica Museum of Flying, was chaired by Ken Rambert and Jess Schwartz.

Orange County Performing Arts Center will receive $6,000 raised July 22 at the “Hot Blues on a Cool Summer Night” benefit at South Coast Plaza Village. The event, sponsored by Center Five Hundred, a support group for the center, was attended by more than 500 guests. Melinda Morgan was benefit chairwoman.
