A 38-year-old medical supply deliveryman pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges that he shot and killed his supervisor and wounded a dispatcher in a medical supply company warehouse near Griffith Park, officials said.

Dennis Adkins entered his plea during an arraignment in Los Angeles Municipal Court. He faces one count of murder, three of attempted murder and two charges of assault with a deadly weapon.

Commissioner Abraham Kahn set a preliminary hearing for Sept. 17. If convicted of all charges, Adkins could be sentenced up to 30 years to life with additional consecutive life terms, prosecutors said.

The attack occurred at Homedco, a medical supplier to home-care patients, which has offices in Los Angeles and Glendale. Adkins was arrested outside the company’s Glendale shop by a police motorcycle officer who was flagged down by a witness.

Police said Adkins apparently had argued with his supervisor, 40-year-old Larry Davis Glendora, last Wednesday. On Thursday, he allegedly brought a .38-caliber revolver to work.

First, he shot and killed Davis, police said, and then opened fire on Steve Lonsinger, 29, a dispatcher.

Lonsinger was shot in the chest and leg but survived. He was released the next day from County-USC Medical Center in Los Angeles, hospital officials said.

In addition, police said, Adkins shot at two other co-workers but missed them.

Adkins is being held without bail. His defense attorney, Public Defender Nancy Gast, declined to comment.
