Odetics Inc. of Anaheim said Thursday that one of its subsidiaries has agreed to provide an automated tape library product to Unisys Corp. Odetics’ ATL Products unit makes equipment that automates the storage and use of computer tape cartridges. The tape automation systems are used in centralized data libraries for storage and fast retrieval on computer networks of information previously not accessible by computer. Terms of the agreement between Pennsylvania-based Unisys--which is introducing a new line of data tape library systems--and ATL were not disclosed. Odetics, based in Anaheim, makes robotic equipment and high-quality data recorders. Odetics Chairman Joel Slutzky said the Unisys pact will not improve what he described as “modest earnings” for the company’s current quarter, which ends Sept. 30. “There is a time lag between the signing of the agreements and resulting revenue,” he said. Since April 1, the start of its fiscal year, Odetics has also announced agreements for ATL to supply products to XL/Datacomp, Digital Equipment Corp. and Storage Technology Corp.
