Henry Rodriguez started in right field and Billy Ashley in left Thursday night, the first time they have been in the starting lineup together. Manager Tom Lasorda said he’s eager to see them and Raul Mondesi as much as possible in the last weeks of the season.

“(Ashley) can be an impact player,” Lasorda said. “I liked what I saw of him (last year). He’s got some deficiencies, but you cover up the holes and he’s going to be a good one.”

Given the uncertainty about Strawberry’s status, it’s possible one of the three will replace Strawberry in right next season. “As far as the outfield goes, we’re going to give some young guys a chance to win jobs,” said Fred Claire, the Dodgers’ executive vice president. “With Darryl’s health situation, I don’t know whether he’s going to be ready for opening day, but we have some people who have the ability.”
