A Greyhound bus bound for Dallas from Los Angeles went out of control on Interstate 10 and flipped over Friday, injuring at least 26 people. Four were hospitalized in critical condition.

The accident occurred shortly after 7 a.m. about 45 miles west of Phoenix, said Sgt. Rick Knight of the state Department of Public Safety.

“The bus apparently went off the right side of the highway and then (the driver) overcorrected and flipped over,” Knight said. “No other vehicle was involved.”

The driver, Roger Wayne White, 41, complained to authorities of being blinded by the sun just before the bus went out of control.

Knight said 41 passengers and the driver were taken to hospitals, but several were found not to be injured.

The injured range in age from 2 to 62. “It was chaos,” said Dave Preston, a truck driver who was one of the first people on the scene. “A lot of people were hysterical.”

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
