In other nonleague openers:

Reseda 24, Van Nuys 19--Senior running back Tyrone Francis scored on a 72-yard run on the first play from scrimmage and scored on a 96-yard kickoff in the third quarter as Reseda held on at Van Nuys.

Francis rushed four times for 91 yards. Fullback Travion Trammell added 48 yards in eight carries and one touchdown.

Van Nuys running back Larry Reed scored three times on runs of one, three and five yards and rushed for 67 yards in 18 carries. Quarterback Chris Byfield completed 10 of 20 for 119 yards. Receiver Shondrick Brame had second-half kickoff returns of 73 and 43 yards.

Reseda took a 16-0 lead in the second quarter before Reed scored the first of his touchdowns. After Reed’s second touchdown cut the deficit to 16-12, Francis scored on the ensuing kickoff to keep Reseda in control.
