CHINATOWN : Service Center Plans Fund-Raising Dinner

Share

The Chinatown Service Center’s 22nd anniversary fund-raising dinner will be Friday at the Empress Pavilion restaurant, 988 N. Hill St.

Organizers hope to match the record $71,000 raised at last year’s dinner.

The nonprofit service agency provides bilingual counseling, job training and placement, and family health services to Chinese- and Vietnamese-speaking immigrants. Last year, the center served more than 11,500 individuals at its three locations--two in Chinatown and a year-old office in Monterey Park.

AT&T; last week presented the agency with $3,000 at a benefit showing of the new movie “Joy Luck Club,” which centers around Chinese-American family relationships. The agency also has an annual spring golf tournament--this year’s raised $23,000--but the dinner is its major fund-raiser.

The evening begins with no-host cocktails at 5:30, followed by dinner at 6:30. Tickets for tables of 10 are available at $2,000 for Golden Circle sponsorship and $1,000 for Silver Circle sponsorship. Individual seats are also available.
