SPLENDID CHASE: Tim Salmon has already broken with ease the Angels’ rookie home-run record. Now with 21 games to go, he needs 11 runs batted in to pass Wally Joyner’s Angel rookie record of 100. . . . Salmon’s also got 31 doubles--with just four more, he passes the Angels’ rookie record in that category set in 1962 by his own manager, Buck Rodgers. . . . Who set the major league record for RBIs by a rookie? The Splendid Splinter, Ted Williams, with 145 in 1939.

MARRY-GO-ROUND: So what happened when Laguna Beach decided to up the fees for getting married at city parks? The brides and grooms decided to tie their knots somewhere else. . . . City parks saw 455 weddings in 1990, when the cost was at most $75. But last year the fees were up to $125, and the at-the-park weddings plummeted to nearly half that. Later this month the City Council must decide whether the fees should be raised again. The city staff recommends no.

GIVE ‘EM BOGEY: Recent reward offers to turn in graffiti vandals is starting to pay off. In Mission Viejo, five youths have been sentenced for painting graffiti on the side of the Las Vegas Golf Store. They won themselves 180 days in Juvenile Hall, fines of $675, and they must pay restitution to the store’s owner. . . . It was better news for the six people who witnessed it and turned them in--one even thought to take photographs. They were awarded $500 each this past week, the first recipients of Mission Viejo’s new anti-graffiti program.

STARTING YOUNG: Teens get blamed for lots of things. But then, 19th-Century French artist Rosa Bonheur was 18 when she had her first big exhibit. Simon and Garfunkel were both 15 when they made their first hit, “Hey Schoolgirl.” . . . . The Fullerton Museum will open a multimedia exhibit about teen-agers Friday, including a section on illustrious teens. Says the exhibit’s curator Lynn La Bate: “We wanted to show people who made remarkable accomplishments during their adolescent years.”
