Oxnard police were searching Monday for an Oxnard man wanted in the fatal stabbing of 24-year-old Miguel Ortiz during a roadside fight over the weekend.

Police obtained an arrest warrant for Oscar Garcia Segura after he was identified by witnesses to the fight, authorities said.

Police learned of the stabbing just after midnight Saturday when Ortiz, also of Oxnard, was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard by friends and relatives.

Ortiz, who had been stabbed once in the shoulder near the neck, was pronounced dead at 12:15 a.m. Sunday before officers arrived.

The fight between Ortiz and Segura, 21, apparently began as an argument at a nearby party, police spokesman David Keith said. Both men then walked away from the party to the 2300 block of Etting Road, where the stabbing occurred in front of Ocean View Junior High School.

“The altercation continued and escalated to the point that Mr. Segura stabbed Mr. Ortiz once in the neck and that was enough,” Keith said.

Detectives do not suspect the crime was gang- or drug-related, Keith said.

“It was just an argument,” he said.
