NATIONAL LEAGUE ROUNDUP : Giants Lose Sixth in Row, Fall 1 1/2 Games Behind Idle Braves

Jose Vizcaino drove in four runs and the Chicago Cubs handed the San Francisco Giants their sixth consecutive loss, 6-5, Monday night at San Francisco.

Despite two homers from Robby Thompson, the Giants dropped 1 1/2 games behind the idle Atlanta Braves in the National League West after losing for the 13th time in 19 games. The Cubs have won nine of their last 11 games and gained their first victory of the season at Candlestick Park.

The Cubs broke open a 3-2 game by scoring three runs in the seventh against Giant reliever Kevin Rogers. A double by Derrick May scored Ryne Sandberg from first base. Sandberg left the game because of an injured right hand after colliding with catcher Kirt Manwaring at home plate.

Sammy Sosa was intentionally walked, and the runners moved up on a wild pitch. With two out, Steve Buechele was walked to load the bases before Vizcaino doubled into the left-field corner, scoring two runs.

Greg Hibbard (13-11) gave up solo homers to Thompson in the first and sixth innings.

Philadelphia 5, New York 0--Tommy Greene (14-3) pitched a six-hitter at New York for his first decision in eight starts.

The first-place Phillies picked up half a game on idle Montreal in the National League East race and lead the Expos by 5 1/2 games.
