Demonstrators Blockade Paramount Studios Entrance: Activists from the Rainforest Action Network blocked the main entrance to Paramount Studios on Melrose Avenue, demanding that the film and entertainment industry stop using tropical rain forest wood in set construction by the end of 1993. The protesters used a 50-by-25-foot-high inflatable chain saw and eight cement-filled barrels to block the entrance. No one was arrested. In a letter sent to the major studios Aug. 1, the Rainforest Action Network, Greenpeace and Earth First! asked them to eliminate the use of lauan plywood by Jan. 1. No studios have made such a promise.
