BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJOR LEAGUES : Possible Playoff Sites Determined

Oriole Park at Camden Yards will be the site of the American League East playoff game if Baltimore winds up in a two-way tie for the divisional title.

In a series of coin flips and a drawing of lots held at the office of American League President Bobby Brown, Baltimore won the home field if it ends up tied with either Toronto or the New York Yankees.

If Toronto and New York tie, the game would be played at Yankee Stadium. If there’s a three-way tie, the Yankees would play at Toronto, with the winner then playing host to the Orioles.

If the Chicago White Sox and Texas Rangers tie for the West Division lead, a one-game playoff would be held in Comiskey Park in Chicago.

National League President Bill White reduced from seven games to three the suspensions to Al Martin of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Bob Scanlan of the Chicago Cubs. Both players appealed seven-game suspensions issued for their roles in a brawl during a game Aug. 2 at Wrigley Field. . . . AL President Brown reduced from five games to three the suspensions of Oakland Manager Tony La Russa, Oakland third base coach Tommie Reynolds and Milwaukee Manager Phil Garner. All three were suspended for their roles in a brawl during a game Aug. 24 at Milwaukee.

Colorado outfielder Dante Bichette will miss the rest of the season after fracturing his left hand during Wednesday night’s game against the Houston Astros. . . . Anthony Young, the New York Met pitcher who set a major league record with 27 consecutive losses, underwent surgery to his left thumb. He will have elbow surgery in two weeks.
