Japan America Orchestra Sets Four Concerts

The Japan America Symphony Orchestra of Los Angeles, led by its music director, Heiichiro Ohyama, will present four concerts during its new season. The first three will be at the Japan America Theatre in Little Tokyo.

The orchestral season begins Oct. 3, with a program of music by Ifukube, Prokofiev and Beethoven at which Masuko Ushioda will be soloist in the Second Violin Concerto by Prokofiev.

The premiere performance of Zuqiang Wu’s Pipa Concerto, subtitled “Spring Night on the Moon River,” will highlight the Jan. 15 program, also including works by Ravel and Haydn. Wu Man will be soloist in the concerto.

Music by Stravinsky, Milhaud and Mozart make up the March 5 agenda, when Mari Kodoma will appear as soloist in Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 27 in B-flat.

The orchestra closes its season May 3, when it temporarily moves to Ambassador Auditorium in Pasadena for a Beethoven/Chopin program at which Hiroko Nakamura will be soloist in Chopin’s E-minor Piano Concerto.
