POMONA : 2 Sought in Killing of Man During Robbery
Pomona police on Tuesday were seeking two robbers who killed a man and wounded his female companion as she drove up to her home--even though she gave them her purse.
The robbery occurred at 12:30 a.m. Monday in the 600 block of Lincoln Avenue as Armida P. Figures, 47, got out of her van, Lt. Leon Sakamoto said. An armed man approached, demanded Figures’ purse and--although she handed the purse to him--shot her.
The gunman entered the van and fought with Figures’ companion, Jefferey James, 32, of Los Angeles, police said, until the second assailant put an end to the struggle by shooting James, who died at the scene.
Figures, who crawled to her nearby home to phone police, was hospitalized in satisfactory condition Tuesday.
No detailed description of the robbers was available, Sakamoto said.
