LOS ANGELES : MTA Launches $7-Million Program to Fight Graffiti

Share

The county Metropolitan Transportation Authority has unveiled a $7-million program aimed at halting the painting of graffiti on its buses.

The plan combines escalated bus-cleaning procedures and the use of graffiti-resistant materials with increased law enforcement action and community involvement.

The Enhanced Graffiti Abatement Program follows a six-month pilot “Zero Tolerance” effort that began in January on four downtown routes involving 150 buses.

The effort has been expanded to include about 400 buses, including 155 on central Los Angeles bus lines and approximately 100 buses serving Long Beach.

The anti-graffiti program will next be extended to about 200 buses on lines in South-Central Los Angeles.

As part of the program, officials announced a toll-free telephone number--800-STOP-TAG--that individuals can call to report graffiti vandalism.
