About 50 rose growers from around the Southland are expected to travel to Buenaventura Mall in Ventura on Saturday for the first professional rose show in Ventura County.

Sponsored by the Ventura County Rose Society, the show is free to anyone who wants to enter their cut roses.

The only requirement is that the roses be grown in private outdoor gardens, said Jeri Collari, assistant show chairman for the rose society.

Entries will be accepted at the mall from 7:30 to 9:45 a.m. Judging begins at 10 a.m.

The show will have nine judges, all sanctioned by the American Rose Society, who will rate the flowers on their color, shape and freshness, Collari said.
