ACLU to Show Artwork From Death Row

Share

Artwork by Death Row inmates from California State Prison at San Quentin will be displayed Sunday by the local chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union.

“This work is extraordinarily moving,” said Bob Sanger, president of the ACLU Ventura and Santa Barbara chapter.

The art depicts a range of images, from a smiling clown to half-man, half-skeleton figures in chains. The complete 60-piece display, which is on loan from the Guernica Gallery of Graphic Arts in Santa Barbara, can be viewed at the gallery throughout October.

Sanger welcomed all who have an interest in the issue of capital punishment to attend the annual garden party on Sunday.

Mike Farrell, actor and civil rights activist, will be the guest of honor for the 2 p.m. gathering.

The ACLU, which opposes the death penalty, is a nonprofit nationwide organization that seeks to defend civil rights and personal freedoms.

Tickets are $5 at the door at 4440 Nueces Drive, Santa Barbara.
