Stump Rushes for 184 Yards as Brethren Christian Rolls

Mark Stump rushed 18 times for 184 yards and two touchdowns to lead Brethren Christian to a 34-6 victory over visiting Maranatha Friday night at Artesia High.

Stump scored on runs of 31 and 11 yards to lead the ground attack. He also recovered a fumble.

The Warriors finished with 321 yards, with Keith Washington contributing 87.

Brethren Christian (2-1) scored on its first possession when Washington broke loose over the right side for a 44-yard touchdown.

Maranatha (1-2) scored with 4 minutes 3 seconds left in the first quarter on a 36-yard pass from Jose Chavez to Isaac Chung. Washington blocked the extra point try to preserve a 7-6 Warrior lead.

Stump’s 31-yard touchdown increased the Brethren Christian first-quarter lead to 14-6.

Reggie Davis hit Andy Brown with a 21-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter, and Stump scored in the third quarter to make it 28-6.

A 24-yard interception return by Kevin Price in the fourth quarter completed the scoring for the Warriors.

Stump did most of his damage early, carrying the ball only once for two yards in the last quarter as Coach Ken Sharrar got most of his team some playing time.
