Mr. Sarcasm on the phone wanted to know what I thought of Jim Everett now. . . . I think what I’ve always thought of Jim Everett. . . .

He is capable of a lousy game one week and a big game the next one and he does some of his best work in the state of Texas when least expected. . . .

On Sunday, he completed 19 of 28 passes for 316 yards and three touchdowns in a 28-13 victory over the defensive forces of Buddy Ryan at Houston a week after the Rams lost to the Giants at the Meadowlands. . . .

Last Nov. 15, he completed 22 of 37 passes for 251 yards and two touchdowns in a 27-23 victory over the Super Bowl champions to-be at Irving, Tex., a week after losing to the Phoenix Cardinals at Anaheim. . . .

OK, I admit that the quarterback draw play during the Rams’ first touchdown drive surprised me. Kind of shocked the Oilers, too. . . .

Maybe Houston should fire Ryan, not Jack Pardee. . . .

So much for Tony Zendejas being the Rams’ only deep threat. . . .

Thumbs up to Chuck Knox for not going too conservative in the second half while trying to protect a lead. . . .

Warren Moon, 36, looked old, particularly when Robert Young or Sean Gilbert was in his face. . . .

Sam Wyche sure has turned around the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. . . .
