SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

The city and Sally’s Fund, a support group for senior citizens, will co-sponsor “Senior Opportunity Day” on Wednesday, allowing residents to obtain a variety of health care services, from hearing and vision tests to examinations for skin cancer.

This is the first time such a service has been offered in Laguna Beach, Recreation Director Cindy King said.

“Given the fact that about 18% of our population is comprised of senior citizens, we wanted to offer a day when we could bring all the services together with the senior citizens and have one-stop shopping, so to speak,” King said.

In addition to the health screening, residents will be able to talk with representatives from health maintenance organizations and from social service agencies. Utility company employees will be on hand to explain discount rates available to seniors.

Women will be offered make-overs.

For a $3 fee, participants who register in advance can get identification cards from the Department of Motor Vehicles. The cards are intended for people who do not have a driver’s license. All other services are free.

The event will take place at Lang Park, at Coast Highway and Wesley Drive, in South Laguna from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

To apply for the DMV identification card, call the city’s senior citizen coordinator at (714) 497-2441.
