A 23-year-old Oxnard woman was tied up and raped Tuesday morning by an armed man who apparently broke into her house to burglarize it, police said.

Investigators have no suspects and plan to interview the victim again today, Oxnard Police spokesman David Keith said.

The attack occurred in the 1000 block of West Doris Avenue around 8 a.m. Tuesday. Police said the man apparently broke into the house through a window and surprised the woman.

The victim told police the man raped her after tying her hands and gagging her mouth. He then shoved her in a closet and ransacked her home, preparing to steal property, police said.

The suspect, who was armed with a handgun, fled without property when a female relative of the victim arrived at the house. A 3-year-old girl and another young child were home at the time, but they were not injured, Keith said.

Based on the account given by police at the scene, Keith said it appeared the man intended to burglarize the house but decided to rape the victim after she confronted him.

The attacker was described as a Latino man, about 35 years old, around 5-feet, 5-inches tall and weighing 170 pounds. He has tattoos on his arms and was wearing black pants and a white T-shirt.
