The U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee approved $244 million Wednesday for an array of Los Angeles transportation projects, including subway construction and design of a high-tech bus.

The funding is part of a $4.5-billion bill that includes transportation projects nationwide, said Michael Bustamante, spokesman for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. The bill is expected to reach the Senate floor next week, he said.

The measure includes:

* $69.2 million to complete the federal share of the second segment of the Red Line subway, from Wilshire Boulevard to North Hollywood.
