A construction crew ruptured a gas main outside an elementary school Friday and about 1,350 people were evacuated, including 1,000 from the two schools nearby.

No one was injured in the incident, which began about 11 a.m. when construction workers accidentally tore open the gas main while working in the 31700 block of Ridge Route Road, said Los Angeles County Fire Inspector Jack Pritchard.

About 1,000 students from Castaic Elementary School and Castaic Middle School and 350 people from homes in the area were evacuated for about two hours.
