SUNSET LEAGUE : Marina Defense Dominates Winless Ocean View, 17-6

Share

It wasn’t pretty, but Marina’s 17-6 victory over Ocean View Friday night was good enough to put the Vikings atop the Sunset League standings after the opening week of league play.

Marina (2-2) displayed an inconsistent offense, but the Viking defense held Ocean View (0-4) to 36 first-half yards and scored the game’s first touchdown.

Marina led, 3-0, at halftime despite dominating the first two quarters. The Vikings had two touchdowns called back because of holding penalties and held possession of the ball for more than two-thirds of the half.

The game got uglier after halftime, as the second-half kickoff took a bad bounce and pinned Marina at its own five-yard line. The teams combined for four turnovers over a 10-minute span, with Marina cashing in on a 97-yard interception return by Josh Roberts to take a 10-0 lead later in the period.

After a missed Seahawk field goal attempt, Marina put the game out of reach as Micah Harrison shook off tacklers en route to a 38-yard touchdown run.
