Nirvana’s Destiny

Share

Nirvana’s “In Utero,” destined for a long stay at the top of the Times’ Southern California pop album chart, debuted--as expected--at No. 1. It’s also the hard-rock chart-topper--no surprise either. The “Free Willy” soundtrack has suddenly become an area favorite, jumping on the pop album chart at No. 4--though it’s only No. 84 nationally. On the pop singles chart, Tag Team’s “Whoomp! (There It Is)” is back in the No. 1 position after a temporary stay behind Mariah Carey’s “Dreamlover.” Clearly “Whoomp! (There It Is)” is the single of the year.
